Chris

Chris Carr has worked in higher education since 2007 and holds a PhD from Brown University, a Bachelor of Business from University of Michigan and an MA in Russian from Middlebury College.

After earning his PhD in 2016, Chris joined The Dean of the College Office at Brown and served as the Assistant Director of Fellowships and Pre-Professional Writing Adviser. In this role, he mentored Brown undergraduates and recent alumni through a rigorous self-reflective application process for 20 different nationally competitive fellowships, such as the Rhodes, Marshall, Fulbright, and Truman Scholarships. During his time there, Brown won the most Fulbright awards out of any school in the nation.

Chris also advised each Brown undergraduate applying to medical school on their personal statements. He continued to mentor students in developing their writing skills at Brown's Writing Center, its summer Pre-College Program for high-school students, and at Providence College, where he taught a Freshman Writing Seminar on the conventions of academic essay writing.

Chris has also served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Uzbekistan, where he taught business, economics, and English at the secondary and university levels, while also organizing and directing a residential summer camp for local students.

Prior to his graduate studies at Brown, Chris taught a variety of writing and literature courses at two different universities in New York City.

As a graduate student at Brown, he taught First- and Second-Year Russian and served as a Teaching Assistant for several Russian literature and history courses.
