The college admissions process is often confusing and intimidating for families. Interface takes a holistic approach to each student's profile, focusing on the necessary skills to be a compelling applicant. In addition to personal advising from a primary counselor, we offer resources and training using a team-centered framework to strengthen areas such as personal communication, public speaking, resume building, writing support, and tailored discussion groups.

Our Education Counseling Packages Include

Application Boot Camps

Interface admissions “boot” camps provide an immersive experience to guide incoming seniors in person in order to get a head start on the application process. Counselors run small breakout sessions where they focus on strategic topics, such as finalizing college lists, soft skills training, interview preparation and developing a strong written voice.

Discussion Groups

Interface offers a variety of virtual, student-led discussion group opportunities for young people to improve their critical thinking skills and engage with others with similar interests around the world. With former and current student moderators, along with planned topics, each discussion group provides an interactive platform for exploration of relevant and advanced topics and themes.

Academic/Professional Exploration

When asked about potential academic majors, students often feel overwhelmed by the numerous options, which is why understanding your academic path more clearly is imperative in the admissions process. Interface counselors will tailor a strategic plan for each student based on their grade level, demonstrated interests, natural abilities, and professional outlook that will help students ignite their own unique talents and connect that with higher education and career planning.

Resume / CV Development

All high school students should have a resume and/or curriculum vitae completed and ready to submit for potential academic/experiential programs and university applications. Interface offers resume writing workshops in addition to counselor support to make sure a student is successfully able to articulate their experiences and achievements.

Writing-Support-Revision.jpg

Writing Support / Revision

Interface offers numerous opportunities for students to strengthen their writing abilities through personal essay coaching by their counselors and within the framework of group and committee settings. We believe that by creating multiple options for a student’s written work to be critiqued is key to elevating writing to the highest possible level. From brainstorming to submitting a final draft, the counseling team supports each student every step of the way.

Preliminary-College-Research-Planning.jpg

Preliminary College Research / Planning

There are many preparation steps before a student and counselor finalize a college list. The research and planning period is essential to help a student understand more about the culture and structure of American higher education, but also how to learn more about individual preferences and discovering the importance of fit.

Soft-Skills-Interview-Preparation.jpg

Soft Skills / Interview Preparation

Interface understands how important a student’s soft skills are, not only to the admissions process, but also for future professional and social development. Communication, leadership, problem solving, and emotional intelligence can be mastered, and we provide opportunities both within the counselor-student relationship, and in group and individual workshops to ensure that every student feels confident in their abilities to interact with others effectively.

Summer-Planning.jpg

Summer Planning

How a student spends their summer can be a transformative experience and should be shared well in university applications. Exploring the endless options and ultimately deciding on the right opportunity can be a daunting task. Interface counselors tailor the summer search for each student with a keen focus on developing areas of great interest to each young person. Whether a summer is spent mastering an academic topic, doing volunteer relief work in Haiti, preparing a research paper for publication, or painting a mural for a community center, we motivate students to work toward their unique goals and passions.

Curriculum and Transcript Evaluation

Depending on the time a student joins the Interface family, their counselor will be an asset in the selection of future courses and understanding their academic potential in high school. A comprehensive high school plan is developed, along with effective strategies to increase rigor and improve or maintain academic excellence. Tools such as developing essential study habits and time management are also utilized during this process.

College List Development

A major step in choosing universities is to understand how to select schools based on categories of fit. It is important in the selection process to carefully consider college options based on understanding your personal profile. Interface counselors begin helping students understand the culture of higher education and the vast options available before moving on to the preliminary research phase, and the lengthy process of building of the final list.

Activity / Involvement Planning

We want to make sure that an admissions committee understands WHY an applicant chooses to pursue chosen activities, and most importantly, WHY it is important to them. We will never encourage a student based on the potential competitiveness of an activity, but rather, helping a student discover what excites them and how they can pursue their interests at the highest possible level.
